The Director of External Affairs is responsible for oversight and leading the Ambler Metals’
Government affairs at the federal, state, and local levels
Community, tribal, and stakeholder engagement
Corporate and external communications
Serve as advisor to Ambler Metals Managing Director
Oversight and management of community outreach, government relations, and communications staff and contractors
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Government Relations
1.) Provide strategic direction and oversight on government relations activities
2.) At the direction of the Managing Director, identify legislative, regulatory, and other governmental priorities affecting the interests of the project and company
3.) Cultivate and enhance AMC’s relationships at the federal, state, and local levels of government with lawmakers, staff, and decision makers
4.) Manage external government relations professionals/consultants representing AMC interests
5.) Serve as an internal resource on public policy matters
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
1.) Manage and oversee community engagement staff and contractors.
2.) Oversee the creation and implementation of comprehensive community engagement plans, including communication strategies, outreach methods, and feedback mechanisms
3.) Identify and map key community stakeholders, including local leaders, community groups, businesses, and local agencies/committees/organizations
4.) Establish and maintain positive working relationships with community members and stakeholders through communication and collaboration
5.) Build partnerships with stakeholder groups throughout Doyon and NANA regions.
6.) Conduct and oversee outreach activities – public meetings, workshops, surveys, focus groups, and community forum to gather input from populations and communities across Doyon and NANA regions
7.) Empower community members to participate actively and build community advocacy by providing information, training, and educational materials
8.) Identify and engage with organizations in-region and across the state - assembly meetings, boards and commissions, task forces, tribal councils and other community-based groups and trade associations
9.) Serve as a liaison and representative to industry trade associations throughout the state as directed by the Managing Director
Communications
1.) Lead the communications strategy for AMC, including media relations, and publicity, internal and external communications
2.) Assure that the company/project’s communications reflect its core values and advances AMC’s stakeholder engagement strategies
3.) Build and maintain strategic relationships with partners and stakeholders like NANA, Doyon, AIDEA, and government representatives and foster collaboration opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
1.) Bachelor’s degree in communications, Community Relations, Political Science, Natural Resource Management or Alaska Native Studies or equivalent**
2.) 5-10 years of experience in government relations, communications, public relations, and community outreach initiatives, including leadership and management experience
3.) Extensive experience working with rural Alaska communities preferred
4.) Experience working with resource development industries strongly preferred
**A combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1.) Highly skilled in oral and written communication, networking and public relations
2.) Strong leadership and team management skills
3.) Strong knowledge of and familiarity with rural Alaska communities
4.) Knowledge of the permitting and regulatory processes associated mining, mineral exploration and resource development, particularly in Alaska
5.) Strong understanding of public policy and local, state and federal government processes
6.) Ability to work tactfully and respectfully with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds
7.) Ability to be flexible and adaptable to change and to deal with several tasks simultaneously
WORKING CONDITIONS
1.) Extensive travel, including to rural Alaska communities, is required. Long workdays may be required periodically
2.) This position requires working in an office setting, which may involve long periods of sitting or standing. Some lifting or carrying may be required, particularly when traveling.
3.) May be required to work in arctic conditions during the winter months
4.) Required travel may be via small aircraft or boat, four-wheel drive and all- terrain vehicles and snowmachines
5.) Exposure to inclement weather conditions (including snow, rain, wind as well as extremely warm or cold conditions) is common

Ambler Metals is exploring the highly prospective Ambler Mining District in northwest Alaska which is home to some of the richest known copper-dominant polymetallic deposits, known as the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP).
The core reboxing crew will be integral to the preservation of existing diamond drill core. The crew will work from July 19-25 at the Bornite worksite to move core material to a new storage system.
Workers will stay at the remote Bornite camp, with lodging and meals provided. Background checking and drug screening protocols will be in place.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety
Exercise stop-work authority when necessary
Complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for each job
Operate equipment in safe and professional manner
Comply with on-site safety programs
Reboxing
Locate existing core stored in pallets in the core yard
Transport, by carrying or using a skid steer, core boxes to staging area
Photograph core and organize core photographs.
Assemble and accurately label new core boxes and storage cages
Transfer all core and sample materials to a new core box, ensuring accurate footage placement
Catalog information and enter data into a computer for further data processing
Log and communicate missing or out of place core or material
Communication
Report all safety, environmental and security incidents to site management immediately
QUALFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Must be at least 18 years old
Core cutting or geotechnician experience preferred
Formal skid steer training and experience is preferred
General computer skills including Excel and Word preferred
The individual should be focused, self-motivated, well organized and detail-oriented
Good reading and writing skills, both orally and written, legible handwriting and capable of basic mathematical calculations
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work well with a small team
Ability to be flexible and adaptable to change
Ability to follow instructions effectively and in a timely manner and with strict attention to detail
Ability to work 11-hour days for 1-2 weeks in a remote location
Ability to work long hours outside, sometimes in adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind)
Ability to lift and carry 50-60 pounds frequently.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
